Sunrise Dog Training Center offers a wide range of training options for you and your dog. All classes are held at the Sunrise Kennel in our indoor/outdoor training center.

Our talented training team, use their experience and education to produce a dynamic training program that is fun for dogs and the whole family. Our talented training team, under the leadership and guidance of Training Director Colton Johnson, infuses every class and lesson with their passion for dogs and enthusiasm for training.

Thorough understanding of canine behavior, dog psychology, and associated principles allow Colton and our other training instructors to identify the proper method in order to effectively train any and all dogs. This approach ensures the desired training results and satisfaction of every customer.

Training can be tailored to deal with the behavior issues of any dog. Our trainers specialize in behavior modification, aggression issues, and socialization. We offer a wide range of training options for you and your dog. All classes are held at the kennel in our indoor/outdoor training center. In order to participate in any training class, dogs must be up-to-date on their vaccinations for Rabies, Distemper, and Bordetella (kennel cough vaccine). Records from your veterinarian will be required for verification.

CONSULTATIONS - Free

This is a meet and great for your dog, you, and me at the Training Center. I show what my techniques and philosophies are and how these are utilized in our Program. We, in addition, take time to discuss what program and level may be best for your dog.

PUPPY SOCIALIZATION- $20 per day

This service is an organized and supervised puppy playtime done at our doggie daycare. Puppies will play and be socialized with dogs their size. We will work with behaviors like barking, jumping, and biting.

GROUP CLASSES

Puppy, Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced, all of our classes are 6 to 8 weeks long. You come in 1 time a week for 1 hr with 5-10 other dogs per class.

PUPPY - $300 (8 weeks)

Puppy Class is an 8 week class for Puppies no older than 6 months of age.

Owners and their puppies will spend quality time doing the following:

Socializing with both puppies and other people
Exposure to a variety of different textures and items
Desensitizing and Confidence Building
Being introduced to all the basic obedience commands

Participants will also learn the early signs to watch for as well as how to stop behavioral issues like resource guarding, leash reactivity, chewing and digging, excessive whining, and barking before they become habits. Participants also receive tips on potty training as well as assistance with any puppy specific issues they may be experiencing.

Our puppy classes all follow the AKC Puppy Star Criteria and each participant can qualify to receive an AKC certificate and Puppy Star packet.

BASIC - $300 (8 weeks)

Basic Obedience class is an 8 week class for all dogs 6 months of age and older. The class focuses on teaching all the basic obedience commands as well as educating participants on a variety of common behavior issues.

If you are NOT enjoying walks with your dog because they are constantly pulling on the leash… THIS IS THE CLASS FOR YOU!!!!

Participants will learn the following obedience commands:

Heel including how to handle dogs that pull or lag behind on walks
Sit including Automatic sits
Stay work on duration as well as distractions
Down
Come including long line recall with a variety of distractions
Settle and Place
Threshold work to stop dogs from bolting outdoors

Behavior issues addressed in class:

Jumping
Digging
Nuisance barking
Chewing
Off
Any other behavioral problems that participants are experiencing

INTERMEDIATE - $300 (6 weeks)

Dogs must have some formal training and be able to respond to all basic commands with distractions. We are working a lot with long line commands and taking field trips to highly distracting environments ( Home Depot, Park, etc....).

ADVANCED - $250 (6 weeks)

Dogs must be able to perform all commands in highly distracting environments. Off-Leash training and obstacles.

AGILITY Classes - $250 (6 weeks)

Agility for fun! This is not a competitive class but done with regulated equipment. You come in 1 time per week for 1 hour, but while enrolled in classes you have access to our agility yard.

PRIVATE LESSONS - $75 (1-hour lesson)

Sunrise Training Center offers one hour Private Lessons either at Sunrise Kennels or In your home. For anyone who prefers to have individualized training. Private lessons are customized to each specific dog(s).

IN-HOME LESSONS - $100 (1-hour lesson within Colorado Springs City limits)

We come to your home and customize the training according to your goals. Sessions are 1 hr each.

DAY TRAINING at Sunrise Training Center - 90 Minutes - $75

Have Your dog worked while being boarded or just for the day. This program Gives 1 hr of hands-on training with one of our trainers. Great for maintenance training as well as working with specific commands and behavior. For every 3 days of training, you get a free lesson to review what we have worked on.

The price does not include boarding fees.

DAY TRAINING at Doggie Day Care - $30

Doggie daycare with training, price does not include daycare fees, and dogs must be social with other dogs. You drop your dog off at doggie daycare and we train them while they are here. At the end of each week, we work with you on proper communication between you and your dog.

INBOARD TRAINING - $1800 (2 weeks)

Going on a vacation and need to board your dog? Well, why not also get them trained while you are enjoying your time off?

This is a 2-week long Inboard training program (IBT), this is when you board your dog for a 2 week period while our experienced trainers work with your dog on a daily basis (excluding Sundays and Holidays). Our trainers will teach your dog all the basic obedience commands plus work on the owner's wish list, which is a list of 5 items the owners want addressed while the dog is being trained. Our trainers will do their best to get the problem behaviors to surface and address them properly while working with your dog.

Cost: $1800.00 which includes the 2 weeks of boarding and training and two follow up lessons with the owners, the first being on the day of pick up and the second lesson can be in-home if you live within city limits. In addition, you will get 8 free intermediate/maintenance classes to be used within a year of the IBT we will provide training for the life of the dog. If choosing this option a consultation with a trainer is recommended.

In addition: E-collar training can also be done within this 2 week period so you can enjoy your dog off-leash worry-free. Behavior issues can easily be addressed as soon as they arise once your dog is e-collar trained. Additional costs to purchase the E-collar do apply.

About Our Trainers

Colton Johnson

"I have a passion for dog training, and I specialize in obedience and behavior modification!"

My whole life has been filled with dogs. I was raised in my family's two business kennels offering boarding, training and grooming facilities. My parents had a passion for breeding Old English Sheepdogs and Bouvier Des Flandres, which led me into the training and handling of both breeds.

My wife Heather and I are professional show dog handlers. I have helped condition and train many breeds to top rankings at their perspective National levels.

To highlight my achievements it has been my involvement in helping my parents Douglas and Michaealanne Johnson in breeding the top Old English Sheepdogs in the world and handling many of the breeds greats. We own and bred Ch. Bugaboo's Picture Perfect the top winning OES in the world better known as "SWAGGER".

My passion for dog training for twenty years teaching Basic, Advanced Obedience and teaching owners the skills needed has brought much reward.

I specialize in pet dog training obedience and behavior modification, allowing our pets to enjoy every aspect of a well mannered life.

"One basic obedience class for our first Golden Retriever from Doug and Michaelanne Johnson, and we were hooked!"

Over thirty seven years ago we purchased our first Golden Retriever for a family companion / hunting dog. We took our first basic obedience class from Doug & Michaelanne Johnson in the parking garage of the Antlers Hotel in Colorado Springs. One basic obedience class and we were hooked. Training retrievers became a way of life for us.

In the fall of 1992 we began training retrievers full time at our field training facility in Calhan, CO. Our personalized training program has trained over 25 AKC Master Hunters, several Master National Finalists and Master National Hall of Fame dogs. We have trained dogs who have titled and placed in all levels of the AKC Retriever Field Trial program including Amateur Field Champion, Qualified All Age dogs and dogs with Derby points. In 2015 one of our long time clients, of 20 + years, won the 2015 NAGDA National Pheasant Championship and placed 3rd with dogs we trained. In 2016 both these dogs placed in the top four at the NAGDA National Pheasant Championship.

Many of our clients are repeat customers who have been with us for 20 years or more. We are now training dogs for second generations of these families. We have seen these kids grow up to become great young adults & responsible hunters.

Our very small breeding program has produced several AKC Master Hunters, Master National Finalists, Amateur Field Champion, and several confirmation Champions.

We are very honored to be invited to share our love of training dogs with the Johnson family. We hope we can “Unleash” the sport of hunting in you and your dog.
